Made New

The first weeks of a new year can give us a renewed vigor for life. However, it’s usually not long into a new year that problems from the old year resurface! Flipping the page of the calendar doesn’t erase unresolved issues, unfortunately. Instead of viewing this phenomenon with discouragement, we can change our mindset.

“So then, don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:31-34 NET

In other words, instead of focusing on the need, we focus on God, who knows about and is responsible for all of our needs. Above all we are called to pursue His kingdom and righteousness, which requires belief, surrender and participation by loving God and loving those He has placed in our path.

Take a few moments of stillness and consider:

  • What do I need to believe today?

  • What do I need to surrender today?

  • How can I love God and love others today?

We focus on God and on today, leaving yesterday and tomorrow entirely in God’s hands.

Thank you Lord that You created us, You sustain us and You are making all things new. Amen.
